Dieting and Dining out
Do you ever find yourself tempted by all the delicious
high calorie, high fat foods at restaurants? Sometimes all the tasty
choices make it difficult to stay on track with a healthy low calorie,
low fat diet. A little discipline and direction can help you stay
on track even in the most delicious restaurants. Here are a few
quick tips for dining out and dieting.
Helpful Hints
- Try and make dinner reservation before 7:00
pm
- Eat smart. If you are starting off with an
appetizer chose wisely or share something with everyone at the
entire table.
- Avoid the breads before or during diner. Yes
its free, but its not calorie free. Have a glass of
water before your meal instead.
- Watch what you drink. Choose your beverage
wisely some cocktails contain hidden calories that add up.
- When deciding on an entrée avoid heavy
creamy sauces and cheese.
- Order all dressings and sauces on the side
so you can control the amount of extra calories you add to your
food.
- Order baked, grilled, broiled or poached not
fried or sautéed
- Order things that are high in protein and low
in fat
- Share an entrée with someone at the
table Portion control is a good thing
- Replace foods high in carbs with foods high
in nutrition. Instead of a side of pasta and sauce order an extra
side of veggies.
- Try and skip desert, share desert, or if you
must, order fresh fruit or sorbet instead of the high calorie
choices.
Most restaurants now offer healthy choices
on the menus making it easier to dine out and stay on track
with your diet. Restaurant dining can be a calorie wise feast without
all the extra fat and added calories. With a little practice and
discipline dining out doesnt have to sabotage your diet. Stay
strong! Your diet and body will thank you.
