Post Operative Care
Postoperative Care Because most of the body contouring
procedures are major surgery Dr. Corbin may recommend over night
hospital stay, private nursing care, aftercare facility or the care
of a qualified and informed caregiver. The best option for each
individual may be discussed at a personal consultation. If multiple
surgeries are performed at one time in the hospital a 2 to 4 day
hospital stay may be required. For the first week or two following
tummy tucks and lower body lifts patients are required to walk in
a flexed position. If drains are placed, the drainage of fluid is
documented daily and evaluated until the drainage has reduced to
40 ml or less in a 24 hour period. Generally, the less activity
a patient does the less drainage they have. Limiting activities
is a good idea for the best post op recovery. The average patient
will take 4 to 6 weeks to fully recover and return to their daily
routines. Swelling subsides over time, but some swelling may last
for up to 2-5 months.
Potential Complications
As with any surgery there are potential complications that can occur such as Hematoma, Seroma, Infection, Dehiscence, Deep vein thrombosis, Pulmonary Embolus, Superficial thigh venous thrombosis, Pneumomediastinum, Suprapublic skin necrosis, Lymphedema, Hypertrophic scars, Keloid scars or Negative reaction to Anesthesia. All potential surgery risks are discussed in detail at each patient’s personal consultation. (For specific definitions on these terms go to our definitions glossary)
