Face

Face - Part of what creates a youthful appearing face is a thicker layer of fat in certain parts of the face. If you look at a baby’s face they have a lot of fat. Fat in the right amounts and in the right places can create a younger looking face. As people age naturally, the laugh lines and other wrinkles on the face become more prominent. As people age there is also a breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin causing more wrinkles. With major weight loss the face may also loose fat causing the skin on the face and neck to sag and age.

In some cases fat in the right places is a good thing. If a patient wants to add fat to certain areas of their face and add a more youthful appearance Dr. Corbin can remove fat from another area on the body, harvest it and inject it into the face. Fat injections can also be used in the lips to create more fullness. Fat injections may be used in conjunction with a face lift or alone if there is no skin removal or tightening needed.

If the facial skin has lost elasticity than a face lift may be recommended to reposition the fat pads in the face and or tighten the superficial muscle layer under the skin as well as lift the skin. The incisions for these procedures are carefully hidden in the natural contour of the ear, behind the ear and in the hairline. A face lift is the only way to help deep wrinkles and remove extra fat and or skin on the face. and neck. The facial skin and neck will be elevated leaving a more youthful facial contour. In some patients they may carry extra fat in the neck which can be removed to create a nice facial and jaw line contour. A face and or neck procedure can rejuvenate and refresh the appearance of weight loss patients.

Facial Surgery

Facial Surgery General Information: The face lift or rhytidectomy is performed to reposition face and neck skin, fat and muscle to create a younger, more rested healthier appearance. It can be performed in combination with other facial procedures such as the blepharoplasty and browlift to maximally enhance ones appearance. Frequently these procedures are done in combination as the affects of aging are universal on the face and eyes. The facelift has evolved into several different operations some involving the use of the Endoscope to minimize incisions. Which procedure or set of procedures that will “turn back the clock” with the minimum of risk will be discussed at your consultation.

Length of Surgery: 2 to 6 Hours

Location: Accredited Surgery Center or Hospital

Anesthesia: General or local with sedation

Recovery Time: The patient can usually return to work in 1 to 2 weeks depending on the individual. Exercise and strenuous activity may be done at 4 to 6 weeks following surgery.

Post Operative Results: Each patient heals differently; however following the surgery patients may experience temporary pain, swelling, possible bruising, soreness, numbness and fatigue. The incisions will fade and flatten with time. It has been our experience that patients are very happy with their post op results and their new look.

Helpful Surgery Hints: Be in good mental and physical health. Any herbal medications must be stopped 2 weeks prior to surgery. Discontinue any use of Aspirin and anti- inflammatory drugs two weeks before surgery. Maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly and do not smoke. Female patients taking birth control pills must stop taking the pills one month prior to surgery and one month after surgery. Help improve healing by taking our surgical pre and postoperative vitamins.
